Breaking Medical News

If you’re one of those health fanatics looking for ways to decrease your cancer risk without giving up smoking and drinking, I have great news for you.  A new study has uncovered a way to do just that. In fact, this method only works if you smoke and drink, and it’s as easy as giving up hot tea. (1)

That’s right, a new study published in the Annals of Internal medicine (2) has shown that drinking hot tea “is linked with a two- to five-fold rise in esophageal cancer, but only among individuals who also smoke or drink alcohol”.  So if you don’t yet smoke or drink, but still want to take advantage of this easy road to good health, you may want to think about adding cigarettes and beer to your regimen.

Now I realize that cigarettes and beer fall into the category of “healthy things that some people just can’t stomach”, like tofu and kale.  So if you just can’t bring yourself to do it, another way to decrease your cancer risk is to actually drink more tea. In fact, among non smokers and non drinkers, tea not only decreases cancer risk, but also helps prevent coronary artery disease and diabetes. (3)  And apparently, the more tea you drink the better.  I learned this when I ordered some tea from a holistic website, and received something that looked more like a bail of marijuana.  Drinking this quantity of tea promotes good health by causing you to urinate until your total body weight is four and a half pounds.

Just to clarify, researchers hypothesize that the reason hot tea increases cancer risk in smokers  and drinkers is because of the “hot” part, not the “tea” part. Apparently, excessive drinking and sucking hot coals into your throat weakens the lining of the esophagus, and any hot beverage can further damage these cells and cause cancer.  So if you want to protect the lining of your throat, just let your drinks cool down before smoking your face off.
